I work with couples who feel caught in painful cycles of conflict, resentment, or emotional distance and want to rebuild connection in their relationship. Many of the couples I work with feel stuck in the same arguments, misunderstood by their partner, or unsure how to repair hurt that has accumulated over time.
I am a first-generation Afghan American therapist with a deep curiosity about the “why” behind emotions and what triggers them in relationships. Over time, I came to understand that our emotions are strongly shaped by the people closest to us. As human beings, we are wired for connection and naturally seek co-regulation with others—we just need the right tools and understanding to get there.
In couples therapy, I use research-based approaches including the Gottman Method to help partners understand the emotional patterns driving conflict, communicate more effectively, and rebuild trust. Together we work to slow down reactive cycles, increase emotional understanding, and develop practical tools that strengthen connection.
On a personal level, I am also married in an interracial relationship with a blended family. These lived experiences deepen my relatability and insight when supporting couples navigating cultural differences, family complexity, and the everyday challenges of long-term partnership.
My goal is to create a space where both partners feel heard, understood, and supported as they work toward a stronger and more connected relationship.
I offer telehealth sessions for clients throughout California. For more information please visit: www.tinastherapysd.net
